Homework
No more than 30 minutes each night:
"Research has been unable to prove that homework (worksheets) improves student performance. Rather, I ask that you spend your evenings doing things that are proven to correlate with student success. Eat dinner as a family, read together, and have your child go to bed early. Thank you!"
- I recommend that students read between 20-30 minutes every night.
- I also highly recommend that students practice multiplication facts a few times a week as needed. By the end of the year, they should have all facts memorized up to 12x12.

Agenda Reflections
Students already know that they should be reading every night and working on multiplication facts throughout the week. Agendas will be used for daily reflections about what students learned in school. A great way to enrich your child's learning at home is to ask them questions and have them teach you the skills they learned that day. Additional enrichment ideas (math workbook pages, etc) will be in the weekly newsletter rather than the agenda.
Assignments
Students will be given time to complete all assignments and projects at school. If they would like to continue the learning process at home, that's great! If they are not using time wisely at school and need to continue at home, that is also a possibility.
Late Work
Students are graded on 3rd grade standards, not on their behavior. Because of this, all late work is not only accepted (full credit), but expected. Accepting a lower grade is often "easier" than putting in the time and effort to make up an assignment!
Graded Experiences
There will be at least 6 grades in each subject (except health) every quarter. It is not fair to grade a student on brand new material, so most grades will take place in the middle/end of a unit, but will be spread out. I "formatively" assess students (without a grade) every day to help me plan small groups, so if you ever have questions about your child's performance, please reach out!
Thursday Folders
Every Thursday, students will bring home their Red Thursday folder with fliers and graded assignments.
