BYOT = Bring Your Own Technology
This year, all students who bring back a signed BYOT Contract will be allowed to bring a device from home to use at certain times during the day to enhance instruction.
When BYOT begins, your child will be welcome to bring an iPad, tablet, chromebook, or small laptop to use. Please do not send your child with a phone. It is important that messaging and email is disabled (or not in use) while the child is using the device at school.
It is important that you carefully read the BYOT contract with your child so you are both aware of the rules/expectations with technology. Students are participating in a digital citizenship class over the next few weeks, and I will make expectations clear for students in my class, as well.
It is okay if your child does not have a device or is not allowed to bring it to school! We will have devices for children who do not bring technology available to share.
It is also okay for you to send back a signed BYOT contract and then decide NOT to send technology with your child (or only send it on certain days).

Why do we use technology?
As you can probably tell by now, I love using technology as an educational tool. While I don't believe it replaces good teaching or strong personal relationships, it certainly can enhance a student's educational experience. This year we will be using adaptive programs to help meet every student's individual needs. We will also use technology to reach an authentic audience and connect with kids around the world.
While children will spend most of the day working with me or other students in small groups, interacting with authentic texts, and moving while they learn, there will be times that every child needs a device. This is when additional devices brought from home can have a huge impact on a lesson.
